Sally Matsukawa grew up in California and was lucky enough to have a wise grandmother that gave her and her sister cameras to use while on summer vacation. Why was she a wise grandmother? Well, because that simple, kind action sparked a love for photography which spanned that little girl's life and led to a career capturing all of life, in pictures. From 35mm to disposable to digital camera, Matsukawa has handled enough photography equipment and taken enough shots to easily qualify as a true professional. It is unusual to find such a steady passion for a career choice, even amongst artists, who often move from one field to another, yet Sally Matsukawa's interest and experience with photography has been practically life long. It shows in her work which is very cognizant of utilizing light and finding those perfect angles to capture the very best in a subject. She has photographed many artists, fashion models, and creative types with the launch of her business Toy Elephant Photography in Nashville, Tennessee, which places her in one of the largest pools of artistic talent in the world. Matsukawa herself has also managed to gain skill in video production, working with moving pictures and even became involved in acting. She continues to explore our exciting world as if she is still on summer vacation and lucky for us she finds all the perfect pit stops and tourist attractions as well as those hidden jewels that only seasoned travelers can find and captures it all in just the right light. Michelangelo once said, "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” At Artists Run This Planet we see Earth as our marble and we hold a chisel and hammer up to it every day. This beautiful canvas of a planet waits for us to paint it daily. Gone are the days of suppressing art, of pursuits less noble than creating. We have the technology available to create in any medium, and faster than ever before. As artists we are the creators of every new innovation and idea that takes shape. We are mankind’s continual hope and driving force — “Artists Run This Planet." - David Carus, Art Planet CEO & Founder Archives
